Tenor Kevin Rouchell
Tenor Kevin Rouchell holds music degrees from Loyola University New Orleans and the Manhattan School of Music. He has been an ensemble member of the Vienna Kammeroper, Theater St Gallen (Switzerland) and Central Florida Lyric Opera.
Rôles sung include Albert in Albert Herring, Beppe in Pagliacci, Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Camille in Die lustige Witwe, Tonio in La fille du régiment, Alfredo Germont in La traviata, Don José in Carmen, Danieli in Les vêpres siciliennes and Steve Hubbel in the European première of André Previn’s A Streetcar Named Desire (après Tennessee Williams). He has sung comprimario rôles in the German language première of Die Nase (Dmitri Shostakovich), and the Austrian première of Alfred Schnittke’s Russian opera Leben mit einem Idioten, a co-production with the Moscow Chamber Opera directed by the late Boris Pokrovsky. In Chur and Davos, Switzerland he performed the rôle of Settembrini for the world première and recording of Robert Grossmann’s opera Der Zauberberg. He has sung under the direction of conductors Laurent Wagner, Maurizio Barbacini and Jĭrí Kout.
Mr Rouchell, a native of New Orleans, has sung concerts and recitals in the United States, Austria and Switzerland. Concert highlights include tenor solos in Stravinsky’s Les noces, the Mozart Requiem, the Verdi Requiem, Gounod’s Messe solennelle, Saint-Saëns’ Christmas Oratorio, Haydn’s Theresienmesse and Handel’s Messiah.
He sings regularly as a freelance soloist and principal cantor at St. Patrick’s Church, in the Trinity Artist Series, Mobile Opera’s monthly “Night of Song” and New Orleans Opera’s “Opera On Tap” series. In 2011, he débuted with Mobile Opera in the rôle of Fabrizio in Adam Guettel’s The Light in the Piazza. Recent appearances include tenor solos in W. A. Mozart’s Orgelsolomesse, Mozart’s Krönungsmesse, Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s Messe de minuit pour noël and Claudio Monteverdi’s Vespro della Beata Vergine (Marigny Opera House).
